Organisers of the Chaophya Park Thailand International Cricket Sixes 2011 being staged at Harrow International School were forced to cancel matches on the finals day of the tournament due to the flooding in the capital.
The organisers were informed that the availability of the venue for playing the tournament was withdrawn due to the flooding and the designation of the school as a site for possible emergency evacuation of Bangkok residents.
"It's disappointing for us and the teams to be unable to complete the full tournament program, but we've had two excellent days of cricket, and we fully understand and agree that the welfare and safety of people affected by the floods must be the priority," said Tournament Director Ian Liddell of the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour.
"We did explore other several options for playing matches today, however no option was suitable and it became necessary to cancel the final day of the tournament due to this extraordinary situation," Mr Liddell continued.
Through a countback system under the tournament rules the Lanka Lions from Singapore became the Cup champions of the Thailand International Cricket Sixes, and received their trophies and medals at a presentation ceremony held at the Chaophya Park Hotel this morning.
Other winners included the Skylarks from Kuwait who were awarded the Bowl, and Lamma CC from Hong Kong who won the Plate. The Drunker Lions picked up the Shield.
All the sixteen teams and officials were treated to an international buffet dinner at a tournament function at the Chaophya Park Hotel last night which was attended by tournament sponsors and VIPs.
The annual, three day Chaophya Park Hotel Thailand International Cricket Sixes is organised by the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour in conjunction with the Southerners Cricket Club.
The next tournament on the ACST calender is the Hong Kong Cricket Festival 2011 being staged from 25-27 November at Kai Tak Cricket Ground, Kowloon, Hong Kong.
