Day Two Wrap
Host club Southerners stole the show at the Chaophya Park Hotel International Cricket Sixes on day two in beautiful sunshine at the excellent Harrow International School ground. The team from Bangkokput Rayong Indians and Beer Battered Seadogs to the sword with some scintillating cricketing skills which illuminated the days play. They went on to score a further victory against Rayong in the Cup/Plate Division once the teams had found their allotted positions following round one. Only a defeat against the outstanding side of day one; Hong Kong Challengers United put a dampener on their day. United also scored a win over Rayong Indians.
Pre-tournament favourites Lanka Lions found form with a fine win against their junior side, Drunker Lions. Mariners CC of Singapore once again put on an excellent showing with a hammering of the CBB’s. This was required following a defeat against the strong MG7 outfit.
Lamma CC beat Shanghai Hot Dogs in the third grade Shield before England’s Seadogs sealed their first ever win against the Hong Kong club. Patong Pelicans saw off Pattaya CC in the other half of the draw.
Tournament Referee Ian Liddell had a fine view of the action from the scorer’s table and was most impressed with what he saw. “We’ve once again had a great day’s play with some brilliant virtuoso performances, but the spirit of the game is always just as important and that has been a real joy to see,as it shone through as brightly as the weather once again.”
Following the days play, all involved decamped to the title sponsors hotel function suite for the annual Tournament Dinner where the fun continued as tales were shared and further friendships made.
Play will begin at around 9am on Sundaywith proceedings coming to a close around 5pm followed by the trophy presentations at the school, which is located approximately one kilometre west of Don Muang Airport. Admission is free, refreshments are available and all spectators are welcome.
