Day One Wrap
Mariners Sink Rivals on Day One
The Chaophya Park 7 th Thailand International Cricket Sixes got underway on Friday morning with Mariners Cricket Club of Singapore stealing the show with a victory over the UK side Beer Battered Seadogs and five time defending champions Lanka Lions.
Once again the stunning surrounds of the Harrow International School proved the perfect backdrop to many returning competitors who played out some scintillating cricket at the event organised by the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour in conjunction with the Southerners Cricket Club of Bangkok.
Sri Lanka Masters also enjoyed a two match winning day as Shanghai Hot Dogs and CBB’s were seen off. Hong Kong’s Lamma CC had a win and a loss, with CBB’s and Lanka Lions sharing a similar record. The Seadogs and Hot Dogs will both be hoping for their boat to come in after a couple of defeats apiece.
Three more sides; Hong Kong Challengers United, Chaophya Park All Stars and co-organisers Southerners enter the fray on Saturday morning. Saturday will also see the inaugural rugby tens at the ground, which will offer a real festival feel to the event. Five local sides will be joined by Hong Kong Police to battle for honours. Tournament Director Ian Liddell of ACsT summed up the day’s play perfectly when stating “Cricket is the winner”.
The teams continued the tournament theme of “Quality Time” and making friendships through the game of cricket at a function at Moonshine Joint and Jungle Jims provided by Steve Hatherall; a great supporter of the ACST for many years.
Play will continue tomorrow at 10.30am. Admission is free and refreshments are available.
