Day 2 Wrap

Southern Stars Shine Brightly at Harrow

Rugby Tens made its debut at the Chaophya Park Thailand International Cricket Sixes on Saturday as the visiting Old Bills from Hong Kong joined five Thai based sides to compete in the seven minute each way format as the atmosphere at the Harrow International School grounds took the feel of a festival.

The main honours went to Southerners Gold who defeated their club mates Southerners Black 28-5 in front of an appreciative audience. The second grade was lifted by Thai Army department side who saw off Samut Sakhon University, while Asian Institute of Technology saw off the visitors from Hong Kong.

Darrell Lintott of the Southerners Club who arranged the mini tournament was most happy with the days’ proceedings. He said, “It’s great to join in at the cricket sixes tournament, especially as 2014 sees the Southerners twentieth anniversary.” “It’s also very good to get local progressive social sides involved in the fun.”

Meanwhile, on the cricket field the hosting Southerners cricket team were also the headline act on a busy day for the side as they were unavailable for fixtures on Friday. Convincing victories against many expert’s favourites, Hong Kong Challengers and then the Chaophya Park All Stars saw them finish the preliminary round as the top ranked side. They started their Cup campaign in fine style

with another win over Lamma CC in a close encounter. The Mariners of Singapore and the Sri Lankan Masters will also compete for top honours tomorrow.

Other games saw victories for Lanka Lions in the Bowl over Hong Kong Challengers, with Shanghai Hot Dogs rounding off the day’s play with an easy win against the All Stars.

Following play the teams assembled at the Gala Dinner at the sponsors’ hotel to continue making

friendships through cricket.

Play will continue tomorrow at 10.30am. Admission is free and refreshments are available.
